Nkhotakota District Council is mandated by law to formulate the District Development Plan (DDP) in order to spearhead and promote development activities within its area of jurisdiction.

 


65 % of the population in Nkhotakota live below the poverty line. The listed problem areas are identified as responsible for the high incidence of poverty.

7. High prevalence rate of HIV and AIDS

8. High illiteracy rate

9. Environmental degredation

10. Food insecurity

11. High crime rate

12. Inadequate accessibility to essential services

13. Poor sanitation in public places
