By plane: The main entrance point in Malawi is through Lilongwe International Airport. Lilongwe is well connected to Nairobi, Johannesburg and Addis Adeba. You will find offers on the following websites: KLM, Kenya Airways, Ethiopian Arilines.

Getting there

 

 


Nkhotakota district borders Nkhata Bay District to the North, Mzimba District to the North West, Kasungu District to the West, Ntchisi District to the South West and Salima District to the South. It also shares an international boundary with the Republic of Mozambique to the East.

The district is 200 kilometres North West of Lilongwe, the capital city of Malawi and 358km from Blantyre, the main commercial and financial centre. Nkhotakota is well connected with bus and minibuses from both Lilongwe and Blantyre. Normally the Lilongwe bus will spend 3,5 hours and a bus from Blantyre between 7 and 8.

The nearest airport lies in Kasungu, 77 km away.

Nkhotakota is one of the main ports at Lake Malawi. The steamer takes you to Nkhata Bay, Likomo Island and the Mozambique side of the lake. Accomodation and food is available on board. The current timetable is:
